Class of 2020
Hometown: Glenview, IL
Major: International Studies
Concentration: African Regional
My first life goal is to become fluent in French. It's my minor right now, and I'm confident that by the time I graduate I will be fluent. My second goal is to work internationally. I'm obtaining my Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Certificate from UT this year, so hopefully, after graduation, I'll be able to teach abroad. Finally, I'd like to continue my passion for community service throughout my life, wherever I live.
I love the restaurants Fresh Kitchen and Daily Eats because I can get delicious vegan options at both. I also love Buddy Brew, either in Hyde Park or on Kennedy, for a cute coffee shop study spot. My favorite beach is on Treasure Island, and the Channelside District is a great place to eat dinner with water views.
My favorite class at UT has been my Developmental Strategies of Ghana, taught by Dr. Kevin Fridy. It's a travel course to West Africa that teaches students how to create development projects to implement in a Northern village. I've become so educated on the unique qualities of African development while simultaneously gaining an experience of a lifetime.
I chose the University of Tampa for many reasons. One, they had my major, concentration, minor, and certificate that I needed to enter my job field competitively. Secondly, their study abroad opportunities are unmatched and I knew I wanted to study abroad. I also loved the location - I am from Illinois, so the warmth was really important for me! I also loved the university's proximity to the city, while also having the feel of an enclosed campus. Lastly, the class size and individual teacher attention that we get here as students are amazing, so it's another reason I chose this school.
