Tour Guide at The University of Tampa
Class of 2024
Hometown: SAN RAFAEL, CA
Major: Marine Science - Biology
Minor: Dance
My first semester, I took Introduction to Sociology with Professor Morris, and not only did I learn a lot about Sociology, but I discovered a new passion for the subject. Professor Morris did a great job of making online classes engaging and was always accessible when I had questions. She made a point to be available for her students, and communicated the information in a way that was easy to retain. Even though I’m not a Sociology major, I loved her class so much that I plan on exploring more of what the field has to offer!
I chose Tampa for several reasons, but one of the things that stood to me was that the professors really cared about the students. The sizes were big enough for a wide range of thought, but small enough that students and professors could build a relationship. Tampa also provides students with many opportunities for learning experiences like internships outside of the campus. The downtown area has a wide array of internship opportunities for majors from Business to Marine Science, and students can also work with professors on their research.
My favorite restaurant near Tampa is a hidden gem called Acapulco Taqueria, a small hole-in-the-wall taco place. I also love Armature Works, which is conveniently located just down the Riverwalk and boasts a wide variety of amazing food. Clearwater beach, Plant Park, and the Riverwalk are all beautiful places to hang with friends in Tampa’s gorgeous sunny weather.
After I get my degrees in Marine Science - Biology and Dance, I want to work with animals at a rehabilitation center, and eventually as a science teacher. I’d also like to teach ballet to younger kids, and work in different environments around the world.
